Trapped

The shadows were lengthening, her time slipping away. She quickened her pace. She had to make it to the end of the tunnel, then it would be easy. Shielding her eyes from the sun, she looked up. The cage-like bars of the tunnel’s roof made her feel slightly insecure, though she was glad that she wasn’t in need of a torch. Turning her gaze back to the end of the tunnel, she counted down the steps. Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six…

She stopped abruptly. A heavy metal door was sliding across the end of the tunnel, shutting her out. She started running.

Too late. She stopped, panting heavily, as the door clicked shut.

How the hell…? She knew it was him even before she felt his fingers tighten around her neck from behind.
