In Broad Daylight

“It was really dark last night, but I’m pretty sure this is the place,” she said, shivering again.

“So you have no idea who it was that came at you from behind?” he asked, though he had asked before and knew the answer.

“No,” she shook her head and turned away. “Look, I really don’t want to live through it all again. Please, let’s just leave.”

“Don’t you want to go to the police? I mean, you were raped…” he said softly, though the words still sounded harsh and she winced slightly.

“No,” she repeated. “I don’t. I have nothing to tell them.”

“Hmm perhaps it would have been better,” he murmured in her ear. “It could have saved you.”

Confused, she looked up at him, trying to unravel his words, when he produced a small knife, his eyes glimmering with a dangerous edge.
