Circle of Life

“Stop saying ‘It’s just the circle of life’! For God’s sake my rabbit was eaten!” she shrieked at her brother, punching him for each word she said. He shrank away from her slightly, but did not attempt to redeem himself. Instead he grinned and shrugged.

“Well, it is. Look at the waves out there. They’ll keep hammering against these cliffs, no matter what. The clouds will always keep moving. And foxes will keep eating rabbits.”

She growled something incomprehensible and punched him again.

“Honestly, the fox was probably starving. And to say you always make sure an animal lives…” he trailed off, shaking his head. He grinned again, as his sister landed the umpteenth punch on his shoulder. His skin hurt, but he was determined to keep going. She had been complaining enough about that darned rabbit already. It served her right that it was dead now.

“You’re just mean and you love hurting animals!” she shrieked at him now. He rolled his eyes.

“Says the one that’s punching the hell outta me.” Just then he looked towards the ocean and saw a ginormous wave mount high enough to reach them once it crashed down. His eyes widened at the sight and he forgot his sister and the rabbit for a second.

“That darned circle of life,” he mumbled. “It’s gonna kill not only the rabbit.”
